Hospital Price Transparency Rule Effective Jan. 1, 2019

CDM IMAGEEffective January 1, 2019, hospitals are required to post a current and complete copy of their Chargemaster online in a machine-readable format (e.g., CSV) in an effort to increase price transparency, so patients can make informed decisions about their health care. A Chargemaster is a detailed list of procedures, goods, and services that are billable to patients and insurance companies.

The 2019 inpatient and long-term care hospital prospective payment system’s final rule jump-started the requirement. Because of high deductible plans, health plans will be able to share educational materials on price shopping to their members.

Does your facility have a copy of the Chargemaster posted online yet? For frequently asked questions about the posting requirements, reference FAQs-Req-Hospital-Public-List-Standard-Charges.pdf.
